PWC Partner Schools Rally for Breast Cancer Awareness in Brownsville

October 2025
In October, students, educators, and families from 9 District 23 schools — many of them Partnership with Children partner sites — joined hundreds of Brownsville residents in a community walk to raise awareness about breast cancer and the lack of local screening resources. Over 850+ people joined in the rally.
Led by school and community leaders, including PWC’s own Scholanda Miller and Dahshem McFadden, the event drew nearly 1,000 participants and highlighted disparities in healthcare access for Black and Latino residents. Participants honored survivors and those lost to the disease, while empowering young people to use their voices for change.
The BK Reader sent a reporter to cover the day’s events. See more from the article here.
